Omega Speedmaster Professional — CK 2915 through 145.022 (1957–1981)

A unified serial number and production timeline for the seven core Speedmaster Professional references, cross-referenced from five independent sources. This document plots production periods, serial number progression, caliber transitions, and documents verified outliers and unresolved anomalies. All serial numbers are movement serials — not case numbers. Ranges are approximate; Omega did not assign serials strictly sequentially and watches were not always sold in order of manufacture.

1. Sources & Methodology

Hartmann Roman Hartmann's Omega Speedmaster Serial Number Chart, Roman Hartmann's Omega Speedmaster Serial Number Chart, hosted by ChronoMaddox. The most comprehensive year-by-year Speedmaster-specific table available (1957–2000). Lists reference numbers, calibers, and serial prefixes per year. This is the primary source for year-to-serial mapping.

Maddox Chuck MaddoxChuck Maddox — "Omega Serial Numbers by Year" (2001, revised 2004). Covers all Omega models, not Speedmaster-specific. Useful for general serial-to-year correlation but includes non-Speedmaster calibers in its ranges. Accuracy stated as ±1–2 years.

MWO Moonwatch OnlyMoonwatch Only (Grégoire Rossier & Anthony Marquié). The definitive published reference book on the Speedmaster. Provides refined serial ranges and production details. Referenced through community citations and cross-checks with other sources.

OF OmegaForumsOmegaForums community data. Community-verified serial observations, identification threads, and debate on anomalous examples. Individual observations cited by thread ID where relevant.

How ranges were compiled: The serial waterfall uses Hartmann for year-by-year lower bounds (Speedmaster-specific) with upper bounds derived from Maddox and next-year Hartmann values. Where sources disagree, both are shown and the discrepancy flagged. Sub-reference serial breakdowns are compiled from available published sources including Speedmaster101 research (used with permission).

2. Verified Serial Distribution

Each row shows one reference. The shaded band marks the suggested movement serial range based on published sources (Hartmann, Moonwatch Only). Individual dots are verified data points from the SpeedyBase registry — auction results, Extracts of the Archives, and community submissions. 3. Production Periods by Reference

Each row shows one reference. Colored bars represent sub-references (e.g., 145.022-69, 145.022-71), placed horizontally by year of production. Bar widths show approximate production span, not volume. Hover for serial ranges. Dashed gold lines mark key space-program events. For 105.003-65, a faded extension shows the factory-stock release period (manufactured by ~1966 but sold until 1969).

Reading the chart: Concurrent vertical bars show references produced simultaneously — e.g., 1963–1966 when up to four references ran in parallel. The 105.003-65 "factory stock" extension indicates watches manufactured by ~1966 but released from Omega's inventory until 1969. Sub-reference designations (-63, -64, etc.) correspond to caseback date stamps, not strict production cutoffs.

4. Serial Number Waterfall

Serial number ranges mapped vertically (low at bottom, high at top) against year of production on the horizontal axis. Each colored block represents one reference's serial range for that year. Overlapping blocks show concurrent production. Gold triangles mark verified outlier serials; outlined triangles mark unconfirmed anomalies. Dashed boxes highlight documented serial gaps (23M and 29M ranges).

Band derivation (1970–1981): Lower bounds follow Hartmann's Speedmaster-specific data. Upper bounds are blended with Maddox's general Omega table and next-year Hartmann values, since Speedmasters shared serial blocks with other Omega calibers. This means upper bounds may slightly overstate the Speedmaster-specific range for any given year. The 145.022 waterfall bands should be read as "serials in this range were being assigned to Omega movements, including Speedmasters" — not as precise Speedmaster-only production data.

5. Caliber & Case Evolution

The caliber lane shows the Cal. 321 (column-wheel, 17 jewels) era and the Cal. 861 (cam-actuated, 17 jewels, copper-plated) era, with the 1968–1969 overlap when both calibers were in concurrent production. The case lane shows the symmetric straight-lug design (38.6mm, CK 2915 through 105.003) and the asymmetric lyre-lug crown-guard design (42mm, 105.012 onward), with the 1963–1966 overlap period. Key changes are marked chronologically along the bottom lane.

6. Serial Reference Tables

Complete sub-reference serial ranges from all available sources. Where sources disagree, both figures are shown and discrepancies flagged. Production years derive from published sub-reference designations cross-checked against Hartmann's year-by-year chart.
